About

Life has included a few surprises.

I’ve had the gift of traveling throughout the United States and Europe as a journalist, academic, musician, and minister. But after 13 years abroad, my wife and I have returned to our native Illinois, moving to Champaign-Urbana in May 2025.

My degrees were in biblical studies (BA, Evangel University), theology (MDiv, Harvard), and history (PhD, University of Cambridge).

In 2017, I was ordained in the Church of England, and have served in parish, college, and cathedral ministry in Cambridge and Oxford. Alongside my postdoctoral research in Oxford, I taught and examined for the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford. I am a member of the Academic Board of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lambeth Research Degrees in Theology.

On May 19 2025, I become the twelfth Rector of Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Champaign, Illinois.
